Sullivan alumni, parents,
innkeepers, caterers, and now television stars! The seventh of July was
a lucky day for two NCHS graduates, Chuck and Allison Sobiek who own
the Doolin House bed and breakfast in Somerset, Kentucky, and also "Two
Chefs Catering.” (see the Herald, Winter 2007, page 8, “Dreams do come
true at Sullivan U”) They had the premier pilot showing of their new KET
program, aptly named, "Savor Life.” The show was on cooking with bourbon
and included master distiller for Heaven Hill Distillery, Parker Beam,
explaining the quality factors involved in making good bourbon.
Possibility of national showing.
More than 120 guests attended the premier, and Chuck and Allison had
hors d' oeuvres and mint juleps for everyone at the reception that
followed. During the event they were informed that Kentucky Educational
Television (KET) had picked up their show and wanted twelve more
episodes for this coming season. They were also informed their show
may also be broadcast nationwide by the Public Broadcasting Service
(PBS).
Chef Hickey, CEC, CCE, CFE, CHE,
Director of Sullivan’s National Center for Hospitality Studies attended
the premier and said, “The Doolin House is in a beautiful setting on
Main Street in Somerset. The rooms, accommodations and cuisine are first
class. When I left Sunday morning, Chuck and Allison were preparing
breakfast for their 12 overnight guests. I felt very proud of these two
past students and their achievements.”
The Herald congratulates Allison and
Chuck and sends best wishes for their continued success.
