The objectives of the
Sullivan University E-Mentoring program are:
-
To encourage the
growth of long-term multi-generational relationships and
friendships.
-
To give younger
participants a glimpse of their own future and provide them with
informal advice and guidance.
-
To provide
on-going interaction over the Internet.
-
To increase the
awareness which younger participants have about specific career
options?
-
To provide
Sullivan students the opportunity to give back to the community by
mentoring students from across the country and the world.
-
To increase
connections among Sullivan University students and provide a
pipeline for guidance.
E-mentoring gives
Sullivan a tremendous opportunity to connect multiple generations of
students together in a supportive and motivational environment. These
“mentoring groups” are designed to allow the participants to develop
long-term relationships.
The Sullivan
E-Mentoring Program will create mentoring groups consisting of
undergraduate Sullivan University students, professional alumni, and
high school students. High school participants will realize the
importance of a secondary education to a successful career. College
students will become more aware of the contemporary issues they may
encounter in the working world. Each group should have 5- 6
participants selected from the following criteria:
1.
Students in
their first year of college
2.
Upper-class
University students
3.
Working
professional alumni
4.
High school
students (Magnet school disciplines paired with Sullivan career school
disciplines)
The Sullivan
E-mentoring experience will link participants by different age and
educational levels. For example, while the undergraduate student will
mentor a pre-college student, she/he will, in turn, be mentored by a
working alumnus. The professional alumnus will have the opportunity to
mentor all of the students. The high school student will benefit from
observing college "almost" first-hand and learning more about how to
prepare for the working world.
E-mentoring has the
potential to grow and enhance the Sullivan community experience for all
students, alumni faculty and staff who choose to share their experiences
and support those who will follow in their footsteps. |
