Hospitality Management Students Honored in Chicago

Nadia Mutan and Kevin O’Niones were recently honored at the National Restaurant Association’s annual Salute to Excellence student forum and awards gala at the Chicago Hilton. Mutan and O’Niones joined over 200 other student honor delegates representing nearly 125 hospitality and culinary programs nationwide. The annual event, sponsored by the NRA’s Educational Foundation, showcases outstanding foodservice and hospitality students. The American Hotel & Lodging Association also awarded each of the Sullivan students a $1500 merit scholarship.

This year’s event was marked by the first-ever student career fair held in conjunction with Salute to Excellence. Hospitality and foodservice operators looking for hires among some of the top students in culinary and hospitality programs had a chance to present their companies to the students. “It was a great networking opportunity,” said Nadia Mutan. “Soon it will be time for me to seriously consider my employment options, and now I have a better idea of what is out there.”

O’Niones, who is currently employed by Winston’s, earned his associate degree in baking and pastry arts. Mutan is the executive chef for the Star of Louisville, and she earned a dual associate degree in culinary arts and professional catering. Both students are currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in hospitality management program and expect to complete their degrees within the next year.
