Louisville Technical Institute -
New Course! New Equipment! Mechanical Engineering Technology is on the move!

Department Chair Cory Lewison is excited about Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program changes that will provide Louisville Tech students with an even better educational experience. Robotic kits are here!

Sumo Robots and Mindstorms Robotic Kits have been added to the curriculum. Sumo Robots provide students with skills such as programming, issuing commands, and manipulating controls. Mindstorm Kits actually allow students to build and program a variety of robots. These provide an engaging and fun way for students to have their initial experiences with robotics, stated Ms. Lewison. Even more improvements!

Ms. Lewison is also thrilled that the Pegasus robots, the programmable robots that provide the deeper robotics training, will receive new controllers and components. This upgrade will allow the robots to accomplish more tasks, be programmed to work in a variety of ways, and utilize state of the art software for instruction. New course, too!

Thanks to a partnership with local businesses, industries and Louisville Techıs Advisory Board members,Ms. Lewison has developed a new course called Mechanical Drives. Students will have a new trainer to teach gears and v-belt drives, conveyor belt operation, and related skills that help keep industry moving. This course will strengthen the skills set of an MET student and make him or her more marketable. The course will involve on-line simulations as well as hands-on work with the mechanical drives trainer.

Tremendous employment opportunities for graduates Barbara Moore, the Director of Graduate Employment Services, says that she has many more employment possibilities for MET graduates than she has graduates to fill them. These program upgrades will make MET graduates even more marketable. Mechanical Engineering Technology is a high wage-high skills field and the opportunities are endless.
