Welcome to the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy
Message from the Dean
Greetings,
Welcome to the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy webpage! I hope that you will find satisfactory answers to your questions about the profession of Pharmacy, our College and our program; otherwise, I would like to receive your input to make our site better and more helpful as we move along on our journey with our future generations of students.
I am proud to announce that Sullivan University College of Pharmacy recently received full Candidate Status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), with the next step being compete accreditation in 2011, when our inaugural class graduates.
Although we are new, the College of Pharmacy has already started the tradition of hosting programs and events to include and encourage community involvement; please check out our Events page for dates and details. Additionally, we have established a Drug Information Center, InterNational Center for Advanced Pharmacy Services, and Center for Nanotechnology Education, Research, and Applications. All of these programs are unique to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, but we don’t plan to stop there…
The Sullivan University College of Pharmacy principles are Education, Community, Commitment, and Care (EC3).
Please feel free to email me at: htran@sullivan.edu or call me at 502-413-8641 and I will be very glad to hear from you. Good luck and hope to see you soon!
Dr. Tran earned both his Bachelor degree in Sciences and his Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Sciences in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology with a sub-specialty in Cardiovascular Therapeutics and Antiarrhythmics at Hartford Hospital and the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Tran has been a vital part of the start-up of two Colleges of Pharmacy, most recently in 2001 when he was the Founding Chair, Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was instrumental in that institution being accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). He has been an educator as well as a practitioner where he has developed clinical services and clinical initiatives to promote the expertise of a pharmacist, and also a scientist. He has received close to $2 million in research funding, published many articles and abstracts, authored book chapters, and made close to 100 professional and scientific presentations and workshops throughout the United States. Dr. Tran was also elected as a member of the State Board of Directors of the American Heart Association in Louisiana, and the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania where he has contributed to the promotion of healthier community initiatives. He has chaired committees and sub-committees in various professional organizations such as the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the International Society of Pharmacoeconomic and Outcome Research. Before that, Dr. Tran was Head of the Clinical and Pharmacy program, for which he exercised oversight for three hospitals in Delaware. He has served in similar positions of responsibility in Louisiana and Pennsylvania.
The Dean of the College of Pharmacy is the Chief Administrative and Academic Officer for the College. The Dean of the College of Pharmacy has the primary responsibility for its programs and future development. He provides leadership for the college in the oversight of its instructional, research, and service programs; works with development staff in fund-raising; provides direction to and receives recommendations from college committees charged with curriculum and personnel responsibilities; develops and administers the college’s budget, and ensures the college’s positive presence in the community.
