Student Government Association (SGA) Elected Officer Position Roles and Responsibilities 2009-2010
Powers and Duties of the President
- Be the executive leader and spokesperson for the class.
- Familiarize themselves with the policies and procedures of the College of Pharmacy.
- Create agendas for and preside over SGA meetings.
- Collaborate with the faculty advisor in processing and approving events, projects, fundraisers or any other activity requested by student organizations.
- Be a liaison between the class and SUCOP faculty and administration on student issues.
- Evaluate pharmacy opportunities for the student body that do not fall under another organization (i.e. JCAP, ACCP, ASCP, etc.)
- Lead the creation and enforcement of the policies and procedures of the SGA
- Help to coordinate Professional Friday activities for SGA and the other pharmacy organizations, in conjunction with the Faculty Advisor to SGA and the Office of Student Affairs and Office of the Dean.
- Oversee nominations of students for SUCOP committees and submit their names to Dean for approval.
- Work with the student organizations and the Office of the Dean in the petition of additional funds for organization activities
- Address the class at designated events such as orientation.
Powers and Duties of the President-Elect
- Be the leader and spokesperson for their class.
- Lead the Student Government in creating SUCOP student events.
- Become familiar with all roles and responsibilities of President.
- Become familiar with all SGA paperwork.
- Address the class at designated events such as the white coat ceremony.
Powers and Duties of the Vice-President
- Assist the President with assigned responsibilities and executive decisions
- Preside over SGA functions when the President is absent
- Coordinate and oversee the SGA’s role in the annual SUCOP Orientation program
- Maintain the SGA binder and jump drive
Powers and Duties of the Vice-President Elect
- Assist the President Elect with assigned responsibilities and executive decisions.
- Become familiar with all roles and responsibilities of Vice-President.
- Assist the Vice-President in the planning for Orientation activities.
- Assist in maintenance of the SGA binder and jump drive.
Powers and Duties of the Secretary/Treasurer
- Record and maintain the minutes of each SGA meeting.
- Correspond between the SGA and outside individuals or organizations as needed.
- Maintain record of event notification forms and reports received by SGA.
- Maintain SGA calendar.
- Oversee SGA event budgets.
- Follow-up with organizations on event funding. Send reminders to organizations on taxes, annual budget updates and any other financial reports required. If organizations do not comply then further action may be warranted, including revocation of privileges.
- Facilitate production of SGA newsletter with Historian.
Powers and Duties of the Secretary/Treasurer-Elect
- Assist the secretary/treasurer in any of their roles/responsibilities.
- Review all meeting minutes and become familiar with the format.
- Become familiar with the documentation and paperwork for events.
Powers and Duties of the Historian
- Document, promote, and archive SGA activities.
- Review and suggest updates to SGA website.
- Assist the secretary/treasurer in their documentation and reporting duties.
- Facilitate production of SGA newsletter with the Secretary/Treasurer.
- Oversee the glass student cases near the lab and periodically update with photos or information.
Powers and Duties of the Historian-elect
- Assist the historian in any of their roles/responsibilities
- Assist the secretary/treasurer elect in their documentation and reporting duties.
Powers and Duties shared by all SGA Officers
- Assist in the organization and planning of SGA events.
- Promote National Pharmacy Month in conjunction with the other officers and organizations.
- Maintain and update the policies and procedures of the SGA.
- Perform annual activity report
- Maintain the SGA office within the DIC.
Powers and Duties of the Ex-officio Officers
- Ex-officers should be available to answer questions from the current officers and continue to serve as ambassadors for their graduating class.
- Ex-officers may be called upon to vote in case of a tie.
