Biography

Dr. Miriam A. Ansong received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Howard University, Washington D.C. in 1998. She pursued a Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) at the Detroit Medical Center, Harper hospital in 1999 followed by a specialized residency in Drug Information (PGY2) at the University Of Illinois College Of Pharmacy, Chicago, IL. Prior to her residency training, she served in the Cardiovascular and Neuro-pharmacology departments as a research assistant as well as a Drug Information Associate in the Regulatory Affairs department at Parke Davis Pharmaceutical Company (now Pfizer) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Ansong joined the faculty at Hampton University School of Pharmacy as a Drug information Specialist in 2001. In 2003, she accepted and served as the Interim Director of the Drug Information Center. She along with her colleagues through their dedicated work won a Merck foundation grant in 2004 to establish a Telepharmacy Program for the underserved community in Virginia Peninsula area. Her Innovative Project in drug information education was honored and presented at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) 39th Mid-Year Meeting in Orlando, Florida in 2004. Additionally, she has presented at various local, regional, and national pharmacy conferences and authored as well as co-authored a number of publications. In 2006, she was recognized by Consumers’ Research Council of American as one of the American Top Pharmacists. Prior to her appointment at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy, she served the community as a staff and consulting pharmacist at Walgreens Pharmacy in South Dallas district in Texas. Her special interest was studying the feasibility of integrating drug information services into the community setting. Dr. Ansong has a special interest in community outreach programs and Innovations in Drug Information Education.
