A native of Louisville and the son of a pharmacist, Dr. Peak received his PharmD degree from the University of Kentucky in 1981. Following graduation, he worked at University of Louisville Hospital, providing inpatient clinical pharmacy services, and he also became involved in the outpatient setting in a neurology clinic.
In 1984, Dr. Peak returned to Lexington and completed the two-year post-PharmD residency program at the University of Kentucky, with a focus on ambulatory care pharmacy practice. He provided pharmacist services in adult medicine, adult and pediatric oncology, and cardiothoracic surgery clinics. During his residency program, he was very involved in classroom teaching and clinical training of BS and PharmD pharmacy students. His research interests included participation in the Systolic Hypertension in the Elderly Program and a cost-analysis of inpatient care versus home health care.

He has also worked in hospital, home health care and long-term care pharmacy practice. For almost 10 years, he worked at Kindred Hospital Louisville, providing inpatient pharmacist services, pharmacokinetic dosing, TPN monitoring and participating in a weekly patient care conference.
