April 3, 2008

Dear Students and Colleagues,

Congratulations to the Inaugural Class of 2011, starting July 7, 2008, of the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy! I would like to personally welcome you to your new home for the next 3 years here at the College, and to give you an update on the progress of our program.

We have filled the Inaugural Class at this current time, and we are preparing for the orientation to be held July 2 and 3, 2008 at the College. I would like to share with you a few data regarding your upcoming class. Following the national trend, your class is made up of approximately 43% males and 57% females, of which 23% are from the Metro Louisville area, 25% are from other counties in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the remainder are coming from all over the country to join the program.

The national average of entering pharmacy students with a Bachelors degree is 20-22%. In our class, we have 55% coming in with 4 years of undergraduate studies, of which 7% also hold a graduate degree such as an MBA, MPH, etc. The average GPA is approximately 3.3 for the class, with a 3.3 in general studies and a 3.2 in math and science.

We are at the final phase of completion of the Drug Information Center, which will be the unique one in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The construction is moving along as planned and we will be very excited to walk you through on your arrival date (even though the addition will not be completed until Fall). We have hired additional faculty for the program as will be reflected on our website when they begin to join us.

In summary, Dear students and colleagues, thank you for putting your trust in our institution. We are very excited about this journey and I can promise you that we are working to keep our promise to you and the community on our principles: Education, Community, Commitment and Care (EC3).

The faculty, administrators, staff, and I are looking forward to meeting each one of you very soon. In the meantime, should you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact my office at 502-413-8640 or email me at htran@sullivan.edu.

With Best Regards,

Happy New Year to all! On behalf of Sullivan University and the College of Pharmacy, I would like to share with you certain news that we have all been waiting to hear for a while.

  • During the December 2007 meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges, SACS has awarded membership to Sullivan University at Level V to offer the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
  • I am very pleased to share with you that we have received communication that the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy has received the Pre-Candidate Status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

The ACPE Pre-Candidate Status will allow us to officially enroll students in our program. We will send out letters of invitation soon to potential students to join the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy Inaugural Class of July 2008. We are now preparing for the application for Candidate status with ACPE.

I would also like to update you on the progress of the College of Pharmacy construction to date. We have finished the remodeling of the second floor of the Nolan Building, which is dedicated to the College of Pharmacy to house beautiful faculty offices, administrative offices, and the College of Pharmacy Conference Room. As of today, work is underway to finalize the building of 10 additional faculty offices and the Drug Information Center on the 3rd floor, as well as the student lounge, student study rooms, and research labs on the 1st floor.

At the same time, with the renovation efforts, work has begun outside for the addition of the new building to the existing structure, which is slated to be completed by Fall 2008. The new addition will house two 96-seat auditoriums, the model pharmacy, the compounding lab, and the Dean and Assistant Dean’s offices.

We are looking forward to the entering class of July 2008 and to be with you in this Great Journey.

Good luck, and thank you for believing in us!

With Best Regards,
