Pharmaceutical Sciences

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at The Sullivan University College of Pharmacy is made up of a dynamic cadre of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical professional scientists committed to advancing health care through scholarly research and professional and graduate education of pharmacists in the Louisville Metro area at large in collaboration with local partner institutions.

Mission:

Along with generating competent professionals to serve the community, the mission of the department is to design a curriculum that utilizes and supports cutting-edge research technologies and offers a firm scientific foundation to the Pharmacy students which they can apply in their clinical experiences. This in turn will foster in the minds of students critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a desire for lifelong learning culminating in the creation of specialized graduate programs in Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics at a later stage.

Vision:

The department is committed to advance pharmaceutical education, catering to the needs of the diverse population of the Commonwealth of Kentucky by adhering to the following principles:

Goals:
  • Support the advancement of pharmacy education by integrating both clinical and translational research with an emphasis on a future drug developmental center.
  • Recruit and retain excellent educators and scientists who are vital to fulfilling the visions of the department.
  • Foster an environment that is supportive of scientific research by instilling in the minds of students a capacity to comprehend, adapt and adopt emerging biomedical discoveries throughout their careers.
  • Provide excellent research opportunities for the faculty, staff, and students through nurturing fruitful collaborations with the premier local, national, and international research institutes.

The Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences at The Sullivan University College of Pharmacy is made up of a dynamic team of innovative pharmacy practice faculty committed to advancing healthcare through patient-centered care, scholarly activity and service to the Greater Louisville healthcare community.

Mission:

To educate culturally diverse students who will become clinical pharmacists who are innovative and life-long learning pharmacy practitioners in the community thru the delivery of evidence based pharmacy practice education, patient-centered care, medication therapy management training, service, and scholarly activity.

Vision:

The Clinical and Administrative Sciences department is committed to providing pharmacy practice education, patient-centered care, medication therapy management training, service, and scholarly activity in such a way as to promote:

  • Excellence in education

  • Quality care for the People of the Commonwealth of Kentucky
Goals:
  • Delivering educational instruction that is student centered and uses the most up to date technological and pedigological teaching techniques
  • Establishing course goals and objectives that are based on current ACPE standards for assessment and outcomes
  • Engaging students in a community interdisciplinary approach to patient-centered pharmacotherapy and public health
  • Recruiting, retaining, and developing well-trained faculty and clinical faculty experts in their fields through mentorship and educational endeavors
  • Developing clinical pharmacists capable of discovery, dissemination, and integration of new knowledge in practice and teaching
  • Encouraging faculty and clinical faculty to disseminate knowledge on clinical practice and education of clinical pharmacists, other healthcare professionals, and patients.
  • Providing clinical pharmacy students, faculty, and clinical faculty with opportunities to serve the community and the profession.
  • Providing experiential opportunities that allow students to apply didactic knowledge and skills
  • Establishing residency and fellowship training opportunities in conjunction with other healthcare entities in the community
  • Becoming certified to provide continuing education to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians within the Commonwealth of Kentucky
