ANTHONY PIÑA & SEAN ASHCRAFT SELECTED TO PRESENT AT ACICS CONFERENCE

The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) has selected Dr. Anthony Piña, Associate Provost for Online Learning, and Mr. Sean Ashcraft, Director of Online Academic Support Services, to present at the 6th Annual ACICS Conference in Ft. Worth, Texas, May 11-13. Their presentation is titled “Recognizing the Value of ACICS Credits and Degrees at a Regionally Accredited University.”

“Recent statements from reporters and elected officials have displayed a lack of knowledge and understanding about the important role that nationally accredited institutions play in U.S. higher education,” explained Dr. Piña (pictured right) and Mr. Ashcraft (left). “This presentation provides a case study of a regionally accredited institution recognizing the value of accepting students with degrees and credits from nationally accredited institutions.”

Dr. Piña serves on the editorial boards of three scholarly journals and has published three books including Real-Life Distance Education: Case Studies in Practice. Mr. Ashcraft has worked with both public and independent higher education institutions, and has spent six years with Sullivan University. ACICS is the largest and oldest national accrediting organization of degree-granting institutions.

The conference will focus on reinforcing the connections between educational quality, institutional effectiveness and student success, and is open to all ACICS members and leaders of the postsecondary education sector.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Piña and Mr. Ashcraft present at the conference,” stated Jeanine Ford, Vice President of Administration at ACICS. “The blending of nationally and regionally accredited institutions will build a stronger sector and benefit all students.”
