COLLEGE OF PHARMACY TAKES RESEARCH TO NEW LEVEL WITH CARDIAC STEM CELL RESEARCH

Upon establishing the Cell and Molecular Biology laboratory in early 2010, Dr. Wasana Sumanasekera from the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy (SUCOP) has launched several bench research projects in the areas of Cardiovascular Research and Environmental Toxicology. The first research manuscript from the four years of work conducted at SUCOP laboratories has been published in the Cell Biology and Toxicology peer-reviewed journal, April 2014 eddition. Two SUCOP students, Nolan Le (class of 2012) and Halle T. Dao (class of 2013) have received co-authorship of the paper entitled, “Cigarette smoke adversely affects functions and cell membrane integrity in c-kit+ cardiac stem cells.”

Dr. Sumanasekera would like to thank The Sullivan University System and the Office of Research for providing funding for the published work via faculty development grants.
