DR. JAY MARR, PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF SULLIVAN UNIVERSITY, HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS COMMISSION ON COLLEGES

DR. JAY MARR, PRESIDENT/CEO OF SULLIVAN UNIVERSITY APPOINTED TO BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF ACCREDITATION BODY

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Dr. Jay Marr, president and chief executive officer of Sullivan University, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the regional accreditor of colleges and universities in the southern region of the United States.

Dr. Marr will serve a three-year term on SACSCOC’s 77-member board. He has served five years as Sullivan University CEO, adding the title of president in late 2017.

SACSCOC provides a pathway to membership and accreditation to postsecondary educational institutions that are committed to providing a quality education to students who attend its member institutions, Dr. Marr said. Sullivan University became accredited by SACSCOC in 1979, the first private, proprietary institution to earn membership and accreditation from the organization.

“Sullivan University has long been committed to achieving and maintaining our SACSCOC accreditation, and we pride ourselves on scrupulously adhering to the organization’s Principles of Accreditation,” Dr. Marr said. “We believe the peer-review process utilized by SACSCOC is the best method to hold institutions accountable to a common set of principles that help promote quality and accountability.”

Sullivan University encourages its faculty and professional staff to join the SACSCOC’s Peer Evaluator Registry and thereby participate in the organization’s peer-review process. Dr. Marr believes that his appointment to the SACSCOC board will allow him to better relate the perspective of institutions that offer career focused education, for which Sullivan University is known, to the accreditation organization.

“My appointment to the Board of Trustees is simply another extension of Sullivan University’s support for, participation in, and furtherance of our service to SACSCOC and the regional accreditation process,” Dr. Marr said.

“Personally, this appointment fulfills a professional goal to become more deeply steeped in the accreditation process and more involved in helping institutions throughout the south achieve and maintain a high level of quality that is required of all member institutions,” he said.
