The students experienced two days of orientation in the program’s new facilities, as well as briefings and introductions of the students, administration, faculty and staff, and learning what the next two years of vigorous study will entail.

On the evening of Friday, June 27, 2014, with family and friends in attendance, the students were cloaked in their white coats, signifying a student of medicine’s entry into the clinical arena. The White Coat Ceremony was held in the Chapel at Southeast Christian Church. Also in attendance were the administration of the university and the faculty and staff of the Physician Assistant program. Paul Lombardo, MPS-HAS, PA-C, a nationally known and respected physician assistant, was the keynote speaker. In keeping with the philosophy of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, which contributed in part to the funding of the event by awarding a grant, Mr. Lombardo focused on humanism in life and the health professions. A reception was held following the ceremony.

White Coat

Following the two days of intense orientation and a beautiful White Coat Ceremony, the inaugural class of Physician Assistant students spent a day of teambuilding and cultural awareness at Churchill Downs with faculty and staff. As a tribute to the students, a race was named in their honor in the program, and a number of faculty and students were permitted to enter the winner’s circle and present the trophy to the winning jockey and owners.
