SULLIVAN UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES DR. CINDY STOWE AS THE NEW DEAN OF ITS COLLEGE OF PHARMACY

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sullivan University is proud and honored to announce that Dr. Cindy Stowe, a University of Kentucky graduate currently serving on the faculty and as an administrator in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, has been selected as the new dean of the College of Pharmacy at the Louisville-based university.

Dr. Stowe brings extensive experience as a pharmacist, professor and administrator to her new role at Sullivan University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (1990) and a Doctor of Pharmacy (1991) from The University of Kentucky, one of the top-ranked pharmacy schools in the nation.

Dr. Stowe is scheduled to join Sullivan University on July 1, 2014, after completing her commitment to the University of Arkansas. She currently serves as a professor and the associate dean for administrative & academic affairs in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

“Dr. Stowe brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and an outstanding academic and administrative background that will enable her to lead the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy forward for the next several years,” said Sullivan University CEO Dr. Jay Marr, who chaired the search committee for the new dean. “We are proud to have a ‘Kentuckian’ join us as we continue to grow the College of Pharmacy and educate students in the college to become excellent pharmacists and healthcare providers.

“Without question, Dr. Stowe’s appointment will make a significant and long-lasting impact on the college, the university and benefit our faculty, staff and students,” Dr. Marr said.

Dr. Stowe said leading the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy is, “an excellent opportunity for me to continue to grow and develop as a leader and feed my passion for pharmacy education and advancement of pharmacy practice.”

“There is a great culture within Sullivan University and a wealth of talented faculty and staff,” Dr. Stowe said. “I have been impressed by the students, staff, faculty and administrators. The college has a solid foundation for success that is evident by a supportive university, a passionate and energetic faculty and staff, and a bright and engaged student body. And, of course, I’m thrilled to be moving back to the Commonwealth and look forward to renewing old friendships and building new relationships.”

A search committee that included, in addition to Dr. Marr, Mike Burleson, executive director of the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy, as well as faculty and staff members from the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy, selected Dr. Stowe as the College of Pharmacy’s next dean.

Several highly qualified individuals applied for the position and the committee selected two excellent finalists for on-campus interviews. The on-campus interviews allowed the candidates to meet with the university leadership, faculty, staff and students.

“Input was solicited from all those who had contact with the candidates and the overwhelming preference was for Dr. Stowe to be selected as our new dean,” Dr. Marr said. Dr. Stowe is a registered pharmacist in Kentucky and Arkansas. She has served as an associate dean at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy since 2005 and she holds the rank of full professor with tenure. Dr. Stowe also has medical staff privileges at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and she has published a number of papers and presentations in the field of pharmacy.

“Dr. Stowe has a tremendous background of honors and awards and her scholarship is extensive and well-respected,” Dr. Marr said.

In her spare time Dr. Stowe is an avid sports fan and enjoys community service, including coaching basketball and softball.
