Dr. Cox received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science with a specialization in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. His PhD was obtained from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry. His dissertation work involved the synthesis and structure-activity relationship of serotonin 5-HT1A and 5-HT2 receptor ligands, and structural bioinformatics of various viral proteins. He completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Chemistry and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, at the University of Georgia. His postdoctoral work involved computational modeling of Hepatitis C and HIV selenoproteins, and drug design targeted at HIV integrase inhibition. During his graduate and postgraduate studies, he taught medicinal chemistry at UGA. Prior to joining Sullivan University College of Pharmacy, he was Vice Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Cox is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Institute of the History of Pharmacy, Rho Chi Academic Honor Society, Pyrotechnics Guild International, and Bluegrass Pyrotechnics Guild.
