BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Betz was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA where he earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the Temple University College of Pharmacy. Subsequently, he completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Louisville. Prior to his current position Dr. Betz practiced at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans and taught at Xavier University of Louisiana, and the University of Louisiana Monroe Colleges of Pharmacy, where he focused his energies on the development of patient focused medical and pharmacy practitioners. He joined Sullivan in August of 2009 and practices as a Cardiology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with both Cardiovascular Surgery and the Advanced Heart Failure Service at the Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center.

Dr. Betz has held multiple appointed and elected positions within the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), and its state affiliates in Louisiana and Kentucky, including President of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He’s also served ASHP as a Delegate from both states, as Chair of the Council on Pharmacy Practice, Cardiology Networking Facilitator for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists, and Chair of the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. Dr. Betz has served the American College of Cardiology Kentucky Chapter as a Session Chair and a member of the Scientific Committee. He has been an item writer for the NAPLEX and is now a member of the NAPLEX Review Committee. He serves as a reviewer for several periodicals and as a content matter expert, and faculty member, for the ASHP Pharmacotherapy Board Certification Review and Recertification Course.
