BIO
Tonnie L. Renfro, Is General Education Chair of Social and Behavioral Sciences since June 2018. She has have been with Spencerian College and now Sullivan University since March 1998. In 2000, she received ordination as a minister, and has used all her training to serve students, faculty and staff, participate in community service and fund raising for various charities, and support veteran organizations.
Professor Renfro’s education includes multiple degrees in behavioral sciences (sociology, psychology), and Master of Arts in Business Administration. She moved back to Kentucky from Anaheim, California where from 1996-1998 she taught general education classes at a small technical college. Many of her students were either former gang members or trying to get out of the gangs through education.
Prior to this first teaching experience, Professor Renfro worked for 5 years as a Deputy Probation Counselor for the Orange County Probation Department in a medium security facility housing incarcerated youth. Many of the juveniles on her caseload were gang members.
Professor Renfro served honorably in The United States Marine Corps for six years from 1984-1991 at MCAS El Toro, California; deployed frequently serving as crew sergeant of the flight line and a jet mechanic on FA-18 fighter jets. Her great passion in life is serving in Guatemala with Compassion International and Mission Guatemala.
