Alumni Spotlight

2021 Sullivan University Alumnus of the Year - Dr. Hope Maniyar

Dr. Maniyar graduated with her Master of Business Administration in 2017 and her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2018 and has taken that education to carve a path of success, not only in her professional career, but also in her ability to give back to the community.

Three years ago, Dr. Maniyar began her career as a clinical outpatient pharmacist. Shortly thereafter, UofL Health experienced a change in outpatient pharmacy leadership and she quickly stepped up to assist with outpatient manager responsibilities.  She served as Interim Outpatient Pharmacy Manager and was promoted to Manager, Outpatient Pharmacy Services based on her ability to serve in this role. Contributions to the outpatient pharmacy include implementing pharmacist-initiated Board Authorized Protocols and community vaccination clinics (both pre- and post-COVID19). She initiated curb-side and mail delivery service to employees, outpatient clinical pharmacy services billing and assisted with new pharmacy service development in Long-Acting Injection and Dermatology Clinics.  Dr. Maniyar successfully led a staff of 28 and easily adapted to her new role and demonstrated solid leadership in a time of change. In addition to the outpatient pharmacy, she developed and implemented policies, procedures and competencies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation of UofL Health’s newly initiated Specialty Pharmacy. She also created a strategic plan for revenue growth during a time of expansion of these pharmacy services, as well as expanded retail operations.

This summer, Dr. Maniyar was awarded the Excellence in Innovation Award from the Kentucky Pharmacists Association. Dr. Maniyar also serves as a preceptor to Sullivan University of College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy students for experiential learning. She also precepts pharmacy residents during their Ambulatory Care and Pharmacy Administration learning experiences. Since the release of COVID19 vaccinations in Kentucky, Dr. Maniyar has served an important role in the planning, scheduling, quality improvement process, and staffing of the UofL Health outpatient drive-through vaccine clinic.

Additionally, Dr. Maniyar volunteers weekend time to assist with pop-up community vaccination clinics with other hospital leaders. Her contributions to our community during the height of the COVID19 pandemic and now through mass vaccination efforts prove that she is serving as a great role model within the pharmacy profession.

Dr. Maniyar maintains involvement in professional organizations. She is an active member of the American Pharmacists Association, Kentucky Pharmacists Association, Jefferson County Academy of Pharmacy, and Kentucky Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Recently, Dr. Maniyar was appointed to the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy’s Pharmacy Technician Committee.

Her education at Sullivan has definitely provided her the ability to experience both professional and personal growth.  When asked how her education contributed to her career success, Dr. Maniyar noted that “Sullivan gave me the tools that I needed to become an independent practitioner who is able to easily navigate and utilize resources appropriately. It is impossible to teach students the answer to every clinical or logistical question they will face in practice, but Sullivan was able to provide a strong understanding of where and how to find answers to the questions that I will face as a pharmacist and as a leader.”

When asked what advice she would give to students and graduates of Sullivan University, she said “Education, whether that be formal or informal, dictates your future, your family’s future, and the future of those around you. Be sure to continue to learn, even after you are no longer enrolled in classes. Staying relevant in your career field will ensure that you grow professionally and are a marketable hire.”

Dr. Maniyar notes that she would not be where she is now without the education that she received from Sullivan. The professors and administration at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy instilled in her a strong sense of getting out into the community and giving back to the community. She believes that as the one of the most trusted and accessible healthcare providers, pharmacists are key to ensuring the health and safety of the community that it serves.

Dr. Maniyar is definitely a leader in the community and share these words of inspiration, “Your degree will get you an interview, but the passion for your career field will get you the job. Stay passionate, stay relevant.”

Congratulations, Dr. Maniyar – we cannot wait to see what’s in store for you next!
