Message from the Chair

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is comprised of a wonderful group of strong, dedicated, and hard-working faculty members who are passionate about teaching and learning. Our faculty are 100% funded by the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and have a laser focus on student success and well-being. Despite having only graduated our first class of PharmDs in 2011, our average departmental tenure length is nearly 7 years, showing how deeply committed our faculty are to the model of education we provide. We provide 1:1 attention unparalleled among PharmD programs and we take our roles as educators and mentors seriously. Our number one goal is to help students become the best pharmacists they can be and provide top-notch care to their patients.

Mission

The mission of the SU COPHS Department of Pharmacy Practice is to elevate pharmacy practice through fostering student learning and growth in the clinical sciences, researching and publishing advancements in teaching and clinical practice, advocacy through professional pharmacy organizations, and mentorship to encourage practice advancement.  


Teaching 
Faculty at Sullivan University are teaching-focused. While faculty engage in an array of clinical activities and scholarly work, ensuring educational excellence and student success are top priorities. The department is responsible for core areas of pharmacy practice in the PharmD didactic coursework. In conjunction with the Office of Clinical and Experiential Education, pharmacist faculty precept students in their practice settings for the experiential PharmD curricula. Pharmacy practice faculty also lecture on select topics within the SU COPHS Physician Assistant program. 


Clinical Practice 
Louisville is home to a large concentration of hospitals and health systems. Our professors practice in a variety of inpatient and outpatient sites at our partner institutions, allowing students to train with other health disciplines to provide collaborative, interprofessional care.  Collectively, our faculty comprise a breadth of expertise in numerous clinical specialties including ambulatory care, internal medicine, geriatrics and palliative care, critical care, cardiology, infectious disease, health-systems, and community pharmacy. 

Service and Scholarship

Our service to the pharmacy profession extends well beyond Sullivan University. Department faculty are leaders in national, regional, and local efforts in advancing pharmacy education and practice.
